The Flotilla was founded in 1999 by members of the Guernsey Yacht Club, and has developed into an active fleet of 12 main fleet sailors and a small number of Regatta fleet helms.
The fleet has representatives in the national development and intermediate squads.
The Guernsey Sailing Trust, which is the sailing school on the island, has a fleet of Optilene dinghies for training, these are similar to the Optimist but tougher, used both at the Sailing Trust and the GYC.
Within the Junior sailing section is a large group of 4 to 8 year olds called Pirates, who sail on the Model Yacht Pond in St Peter Port on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings in the summer and early autumn terms.
The fleet competes in series and other handicap events at the club and each year the Flotilla members attend the three major Optimist championships – the Inlands, Nationals and End of Seasons.
In addition members sail at other events in the UK and France, we also hold a triangular match each year against the St Catherines (Jersey) and St Malo (France) flotillas.
Casual visitors to the Guernsey Yacht Club are welcome to join in our activities.
